What To Do When You Lose A Tooth

If it suddenly happens because of a trauma to the tooth (and its causing pain), we recommend booking an emergency appointment so we can take a look and get you out of pain.

If you have had the gap for some time then at the earliest convenience to yourself, please book in with the dentist and we can go through the various options.

How Are Missing Teeth Replaced?

With modern day dentistry we have more treatments to offer, so it really depends on what your main goal is. We will take the time to fully understand your situation and what is important to you.

The main ways that teeth can be replaced include:

  • Dentures – these are the go to traditional way to replace missing teeth. They can be used for partial/full sets of teeth and can be made out of a variety of materials. For a more secure treatment, we can anchor them in using dental implants
  • Dental bridges & crowns – another traditional way is to use a bridge that “bridges” a gap in your mouth. Depending on the exact situation, there are a few different variants of bridges that can be used. The most traditional is using two adjacent teeth to a gap. The teeth are crowned either side of the gap, and this is what holds the new bridge in place. We can also anchor them in using dental implants which may be more suitable depending on what remaining teeth you have left in your mouth
  • Dental implants – these are the modern way and often preferred method in tooth replacement, as they offer the securest way to fit a new tooth. They are versatile in the fact it can be used in a number of different scenarios and can anchor in the above restorations. They consist of two main parts. The implant is placed as bone level and then the restoration on top (which is the new visible part of the teeth). The restoration on top can be crowns, bridges and dentures.

Knowing your best option can be difficult. There are a number of different scenarios that can occur in our mouths. This is why we recommend booking in to see one of our dentists so they can go through all of them with you, and together we can determine the best course of action to meet your needs.
